Discover the wonders of Arad City

The first part of the day covers a road from Timisoara to Arad.
On the road we will visit the Fortresss of Arad, which was built from 1763 to 1783 at the order of Austrian Empress Maria Theresa. In the center of the Fortress there is a Catholic Church and the buildings around it hosted the Franciscan monks.
Until 1918, the fort was one of the largest military prisons of the Empire. Here were imprisoned Horea, Cloşca and Crişan, and between 1790 and 1815 many of the French prisoners of war.

Our next stop will be at The Evanghelic Church of Arad, which is best known as the Red Church. It was built in 1906 in a Ghotic Style and its bricks are all red coloured. Its principal tower has a hight of 46 meters.
Ioan Slavici Classical Theater is also, a place worth visiting in Arad. It was built between 1872-1874, beacuse the other existing theater in Arad was too small for all the people that were starting to become interested in the world of theater.

The Administrative Palace from Arad was built from 1872 until 1875 and nowadays includes Arad City Hall. Its central tower has a hight of 54 meters and it was brought from Switzerland. The tower also has a mechanism which sings everyday the Ode to Joy by Ludwig van Beethoven.

The Palace of Culture is a building located in Arad, which was built in 1911. It combines different styles, such as the classical one, gothic and also, Reinassance style.

The Serbian Church is considered to be the oldest buildings in Arad. It was built in 1698 and it has suffered different changes. Its orginal tower was modified by adding 4 more meters and it was added a new steeple.

The church of the Saint Anton of Padova is a chatolic church built during 1902 and 1904. It has a Renaissance architectural style and its actal height is 56 meters. Its principal entrance has many columns and above it has a copy of the famous work of Michelangelo, Pieta.

The Water Tower was built in 1896 and it was intened to be used as the water supply for the entire city. Nowadays it is a gallery of art with the same name, and it hosts different exhibitions. After the tour ends you can serve lunch in Arad (optional) and return to Timişoara.
