Timisoara - Tracing the Revolution

The Romanian revolution against the communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu started in Timisoara. The event that started the revolution was the rebellion of the Hungarian community from Elisabethstadt against the forced displacement of the priest László Tőkés.
On the 15^th December 1989, several demonstrations took place. Eventually, a massacre in the Opera Square took place, when the army, together with the security, opened fire upon demonstrates.  The exact number of victims is still not known, but rumor has it that more than 153 people lost their lives. The revolutionary movement spread, and eventually led to Ceausescu being removed from the position of leader. Days later, he and his wife were convicted to dead through execution.
The proclamation from Timisoara, from the 11^th March 1990, is the first document  that states the newly found, democratic state Romania.
